Brendan McGovern relinquished some of his commanding lead yesterday at Seniors Q-School but still leads by one.

In all there were 28 golfers who made the cut for the final round at Pestana Golf Resort in the Algarve.  Headfort’s Brendan McGovern still holds the lead but it has been cut from six shots to just one following a -7 (64) round by Clark Dennis on the Vale da Pinta course yesterday.   Barry Consor and Jose Maria Carrilles are also closing in, sitting two and three shots back respectively.

McGovern was as usual quite upbeat after his round, “I hit a couple of loose shots on the front nine, and paid the penalty for that,” said the 51 year old. “But I know I’m playing okay, so even though I was dropping a couple of shots there was room to come back. I had a good run at the start of the back nine and made three back fairly quickly. The way the course is playing, you have par fives that are reachable and you have to make fours on them – if you’re not making them, half the field are.”

Five players will win cards after the final round and we wish Brendan the best of luck today.
