Jessica Ross and Shannon Burke are four shots off the pace heading into the final round of the Women’s European Mid-Amateur Championship in Portugal.
Both players are in a share of fifth place on seven-over as they chase Frenchwoman Pauline Stein at Quinta do Peru Golf Club.
Ross had a difficult start to her second round with three bogeys in her first five holes but a welcome birdie at the par-3 8th steadied affairs. The Clandeboye star dropped shots at the 10th and 11th but rallied with back to back birdies on 13 and 14 before giving them back on 16 and 17.
Ross will need to go low if she wants to defend her title today.
As for Ballinrobe’s Burke she felt the sting of a three bogey finish as she fell out of the lead.
Like Ross, she also endured a tricky start to proceedings with bogeys on the 4th and 7th but she bounced back superbly to birdie the 10th, 11th and 14th but the Irish Mid-Amateur international stumbled to the clubhouse on 16, 17 and 18.
Aideen Walsh of Lahinch is 12th on fourteen-over.
In the Men’s Mid-Amateur Ben Phipps and Mark Shanahan are inside the top-20 on four-over, six shots off the pace.
