Sara Byrne and Anna Foster will each play at the weekend in the LET’s Aramco Korea Championship after a testing Friday at New Korea Country Club.
Having played in the first group on Thursday morning and overcome a poor start to battle her way back to level-par by the end of the day, Byrne had a better idea of what she needed to do to ensure weekend work in the afternoon wave on Friday. But after five holes, she was the wrong side of par again but birdies on 15 and 17 got her into red figures at the turn.
She traded a birdie on one with a bogey on two, then picked up two more shots over the closing seven to card a three-under 69 that lifted her into a share of 22nd at the halfway mark.
Foster got off to a hot start on Thursday but struggled on the way home, but this time, starting on the first, she reached the turn at level-par after two birdies and two bogeys, then reeled off three-in-a-row from the 11th to reach -3 overall before a late bogey saw her slip back and end the day tied for 31st but safely through.
Lauren Walsh began the day tied for 16th after a strong finish to round one, but it was the opposite case on day two where three bogeys over her final five holes saw her slip down the leaderboard and miss the cut by one.
Aine Donegan also missed out, though the damage was done on Thursday and her level-par 72 on Friday was more about restoring some confidence than making a real push towards the cut line.
At the top of the leaderboard, Japan’s Miyu Yamashita followed up her opening round of 67 (-5) with a bogey-free 68 to hold a two-shot lead at the 36-hole mark.
“I like this course. Today was a no bogey round. My tee shots and second shots were good. My shots were very nice today compared to yesterday,” said Yamashita. “I really enjoy to play with big galleries and there are so many Korean fans, I really enjoy playing in front of lots of fans.
“I’m still a little bit tired from the travel from Hawaii, but I’m okay. There’s good food here. I like Korean food. I’m really happy to play this event and the rest of the days I want to enjoy the tournament.”
Sweden’s Louise Rydqvist and Korea’s Sung Hyun Park share second place on seven-under-par after rounds of 67 and 69, respectively.
