Dylan Keating has reached the halfway mark of the DP World Tour Q-School First Stage Qualifier at Golfclub Schloss Ebreichsdorf in Austria, and the Seapoint man is inside the projected qualification mark.
After opening with a one-under 71, the reigning North of Ireland Amateur champion made four birdies with just the one dropped shot in round two to card a three-under 69 that saw him climb 17 places and into a share of 18th with 36 holes remaining.
Keating, still an amateur, is the only Irishman competing this week across either of the two qualifying venues, after which the complete lineup for Second Stage, held at four Spanish venues in late October and early November, will be finalised.
With the top 19 and ties advancing and Keating one of 10 players currently tied for 18th, he’ll need to produce more of the same in rounds three and four if he’s to join Thomas Higgins, Niall Kearney, John Ross Galbraith, Ronan Mullarney and Dermot McElroy who already punched their tickets to Second Stage via successful First Stage outings.
