Zoe McLean-Tattan needed all 18 holes to finally see off Anahi Lohner-Hutzer of Switzerland in the R&A Girl’s Amateur Championship round of 64 and she’s now the last remaining Irish competitor.
The Romford native finished tied for 46th in the strokeplay section at Craigielaw Golf Club and was the lowest seeded of the four Irish girls to make the knockout stages, but the 2025 Irish Girls Amateur champion but she now has a round of 32 tie with France’s Axelle Guillemard to look forward to.
Guillemard, ranked the 41st woman in the European Golf Rankings, took down Axelle Martin of Switzerland 3&1 in her round of 64.
Ella Cantwell of Esker Hills lost out on the 20th hole to YooNa Bae of Germany, while Hollinwell’s Molly Campbell fell 2&1 to Amanda Revuelta of Spain and Royal Portrush’s Hannah Lee-McNamara was beaten 3&2 by Elea Bastoni of France.
Germany’s Lena Geier, the number one seed, couldn’t emulate the form that saw her top 36-hole qualifying. She lost to Norwegian Marie Sandtorv Lussand by one hole.
Sabrina Wong’s dream of adding this title to the R&A Girl’s U16 she won last year is still alive after a 4&3 victory against France’s Elena Leblond.
“I was never down in the match after birdieing the second hole, and I played quite well,” she said. Only Scotland’s Hannah Darling has won the Girls’ Amateur and the Girl’s U16.
“I obviously want to win, but there’s a lot of really good, talented players so I’m just going to take it one match at a time and hopefully I can do well.”
Wong, the highest ranked player in the field, now plays Spain’s Marta Munoz.
