Anna Abom closed out with a one-under 71 to climb back inside the top 20 at the conclusion of the European Ladies’ Amateur Championship in Sweden as English Curtis Cup star Charlotte Naughton prevailed.
Edmondstown’s Abom, the inaugural winner of the South of Ireland Women’s Amateur Open Championship, began the day tied for 24th at +2 after rounds of 75, 70 and 73. Two birdies – coming on the seventh and 18th – and a bogey on the 13th resulted in a final-round 71 that lifted her five places and into a share of 19th.
Hannah Lee-McNamara, the only other Irishwoman to survive the 54-hole cut, shot a level-par 72 to climb seven places and end the week tied for 52nd.
18-year-old Naughton, who made her GB&I debut for Catriona Matthew’s Curtis Cup side at Bel Air Country Club last month, assumed top spot on the leaderboard thanks to a five-under 67 – the low round of the day – in round three, and a level-par 72 was enough to see her run out a two-stroke winner over Sweden’s Meja Ortengren who also shot a 72 alongside Naughton in the final group.
