Kate Lanigan was smiling on the Swilcan Bridge once again as she cruised to a four-shot victory at the St Rule Trophy at St Andrews.
Lanigan carded a final round of 73 at the Old Course for an eighteen-under total as she kept Denmark’s Anna Behnsen at arms length.
The Hermitage star was in control after rounds of 68 and 67 on the New Course and she put on a professional display of front running. She made a terrific start with three birdies and a bogey in her first five holes before a bogey, birdie run on the 8th and 9th saw her turn in 36.
Lanigan, who sealed the R&A Student Series Title at the Old Course two years ago to secure an Arnold Palmer Cup spot for the International side, mixed four birdies with three bogeys on the back nine, including sending a birdie at the road hole 17th.
“You can’t let yourself enjoy it until literally the last putt goes in, but walking up 17 and 18 once I saw the ball go over the hotel I was able to enjoy it,” said the Dubliner.
“It’s an honour to win at the Home of Golf, definitely one that I would have wanted to win so I am delighted.”
Katie Poots of Knock and County Louth’s Ellen O’Shaughnessy shared ninth place on ten-under after closing rounds of 73 and 75 respectively.
Clandeboye’s Rebekah Gardner was 23rd on four-under after a 74 while Zoe Mclean-Tattan was three-under after a 74 as well. Tramore’s Anna Dawson recovered from an opening 80 with rounds of 72 and 74 to get back to level-par.
Gemma McMeekin finished on four-over with Kate Dwyer on plus eight and Kayleigh Mulholland on ten-over.
