Eoin Sullivan continued Ireland’s recent good record at the Boyd Quaich Memorial with a one shot victory at the Old Course, St Andrews.

The Trinity College student carded rounds of 72, 66, 70 and 69 for a nine-under total which was good enough to edge English duo Angus Buchanan and Ben Willis and Maynooth University’s Thomas Abom by the minimum.

Teeing off in third place, Sullivan birdied the third before following up a bogey with four birdies in his next six holes either side of the turn.

Now leading, Sullivan dropped a shot on the twelfth but managed to move two shots clear with a welcome birdie on the par-5 14th and he could afford to drop a shot on the difficult road hole 17th.

First round leader Jordan Boles, of Maynooth University, finished in sixth place on six-under-oar after a final round of 70 while Aodhagan Brady and Samuel Gammell shared seventh place on five-under after rounds of 72.

Robert Walsh Jnr rounded off the top-10 on four-under-par after a final round of 70.
