Dungannon’s Dwayne Mallon and Castleknock’s David Reddan will both be hunting their first men’s titles today as they share the lead heading into the final day of the Connacht Men’s Open Stroke Play Championship at Galway Golf Club.
Both players are tied on three-under-par through the first 36 holes after a day of tough scoring where just three players ended the day in red figures.
Mallon carded rounds of 67 and 68 while Reddan shot 65 and 68 while Edmondstown’s Patrick Curran is two shots further back in third after rounds of 66 and 69.
Mallon’s opening round was particularly impressive considering he began with a double bogey and a bogey.
He responded with a birdie on 12 before a run of pars was broken by a birdie on the first and he followed that with birdies on the 3rd, 4th, 7th and 8th.
The low second round of the afternoon went to Ciaran Murphy (65) of the Grange Golf Club who is part of a six way tie for fourth place on level-par.
