Matthew McClean and Paul Coughlan are the lone Irish survivors at the halfway stage of the Brabazon Trophy at Hankley Common.

Both players made the cut comfortably which fell at the top-60 and ties at five-over with Malone man McClean on one-over and Coughlan of Castleknock on two-over.

At the summit, it’s as you were with English duo Eliot Baker and Tom Hughes sharing the lead on six-under-par.

Both players added second rounds of 70 to opening efforts of 66 and they lead by one on from Sweden’s Simon Hodval through 36 holes.

Conditions proved tricky on Friday with just nineteen players shooting in red figures with ten more breaking par.

17 year old USA starlet Mason Howell made a hole-in-one on the 167-yard par-3 2nd hole which helped him make the cut on the mark.

Thomas Higgins, Eoin Sullivan, Luke O’Neill and Ryan Griffin all bowed out early after they missed the cut.
