Emma Fleming will take a one shot lead into the final round of the Port Phillip Open Amateur Championship after she fired a course record equalling round of 66.

The Elm Park star was already in a good position after an opening 73 but she rolled in six birdies and an eagle on day two to reach nine-under-par as she closes in on the biggest win of her amateur career.

Fleming started well with three birdies in her first five holes before a bonus eagle on the par-5 7th saw her move into contention and put her on course for a low score.

She didn’t let up and fired three birdies in four holes from the twelfth to move eight-under for her round and three pars to finish etched her name into the history books at Kingston Heath Golf Club.

Fleming joins Ladies European Tour star Stephanie Kyriacou with the course record and she will hope for a similar vein of form in Saturday’s final round which will take place at the Commonwealth Golf Club.
