English golfer Sadie Adams was crowned the Flogas Irish Girls’ Amateur Open Championship after a thrilling final day at Belvoir Park.

The Royal Birkdale youngster played the best golf of her week as she shot 67 in Round 3 and withstood a brilliant late rally from Germany’s Marie Agnes Fischer who went one better on the day but had to settle for an -11 total.

Reigning champion, Olivia Costello (Roscommon), who was playing with Adams and Anna Abom (Edmondstown) had three birdies in her first six holes but she could not match her outstanding back nine of yesterday.

Meanwhile, Fischer (Munchener) shot five birdies on her front nine and three more on the home stretch but a bogey on 11 proved costly.

Adams bogeyed the same hole but she finished strong and her birdies on 15 and 17 helped her to -13 to separate her from the field for another famous win.

“I only looked (at the scoring) on the last few holes because that was when it was getting a bit tighter and I wanted to play my own game on the first nine,” said Adams who heads to Houston on a golf scholarship next year.

“I am really happy especially after the four rounds I have had. I have been hitting it well recently so I felt like I could have won.

“This is one of the best, it gives me a lot of confidence.”

Adams was joint-leader after Round 2 alongside Abom with Costello was one shot further in arrears and while the Roscommon native hit her stride early it was left for Fischer to take the fight to Adams.

However, both players birdied 17 and when the German failed to back that up on 18 it left the door open and Adams cruised to victory down the last.

This was her second win in the space of two weeks, on the back of her Fairhaven Trophy success, and with her mother Lynsey and father Chris alongside her coming up 18, Adams was delighted with the win ahead of her trip to the German Girls.

“They are good support and I love having them with me,” said Adams.
