As the US Presidential campaign becomes the expected two-horse race, one of Donald Trump’s allies has gone a little overboard at a support rally in Rome, Georgia, perhaps taking the former President’s boasts a little too seriously.

Trump is a big golf fan, that’s well known, and he’s long hyped his golfing prowess to near comical levels. That’s also well known. In Rick Reilly’s Commander in Cheat, published back in 2019, Trump, it was said, claimed to have won 18 Club Championships and has since gone on to win at least two more, by his own admission at least. Since most club championships are played off scratch, the idea that a 77-year-old with a busy campaign schedule could take down the club’s best players, many of whom have 27 years on the owner – yes, his most recent ‘win’ was in the over-50s championship, and yes it was on his own course, just like most of his other prolific wins – is a stretch to say the least.

But Brian Jack — a former White House aide who just announced a run for Congress — made a claim that may even trump – if you’ll pardon the pun – the ones made by the former President himself.

In a clip flagged by Meidas Touch, Jack claimed that the republican presidential candidate had recently taken on two professional golfers and, naturally enough, they were no match for the 20(?) time Club Championship winner.

“I’m not sure if I should say this,” said Jack. “But just a few weeks ago, President Trump put to shame two professional golfers. I ain’t gonna mention their names, but just know he shot a 70 on 18 holes.”

Where this round happened and who the professionals that were “put to shame” were was not revealed, but if Reilly is to be believed, then the typical Trump round includes multiple mulligans, ‘gimmies’ from anywhere inside the 50 percent PGA Tour make range, and impressive foot-wedging from the rough, so perhaps it’s no surprise that the pros were soundly beaten.

Jack went on to say that he would “pay good money to see Joe Biden versus Donald Trump on a golf course,” clearly suggesting that the 46th president would be no match for the 45th. I’m not sure if Biden is a golfer, but Jack’s right about one thing; I’m sure he would pay good money to see that match.

I’m sure we all would, if for no other reason than to see what the chances of Trump putting two pros to shame would actually be.
