Mark Power has an Amgen Irish Open berth to look forward to next week, but in the meantime he’s got the HotelPlanner Tour’s Rosa Challenge in Poland to occupy his attention and he’s three shots off the lead after 36 holes.
The Kilkenny man opened with a four-under 66 and got off to the best possible start in round two with an eagle on his opening hole – the 10th. He parred seven of the remaining eight holes before the turn, dropping a shot on 17, then birdied the par-4 third and sixth holes to move to -7 overall and climb into a share of sixth place.
Gary Hurley sits tied for 27th after a one-under 69, that included three birdies and two bogeys, left him on -3. Ronan Mullarney also has a weekend tee time but he struggled to a 73 in round two having opened with a 66 and sits tied for 51st at -1.
Max Kennedy, John Murphy, Paul McBride, and Dermot McElroy all finished outside the cutline, while Conor Purcell, who opened with a two-under 68, retired after just nine holes on day two when he was at level-par for the tournament.
Ryan Lumsden will take a one-stroke lead into the weekend after firing a five under par second round of 65 at Rosa Golf Club.
The Scot matched his opening round tally on day two, mixing six birdies with a solitary bogey to reach ten under par for the week, one shot ahead of Frenchman Julien Brun who had earlier set the clubhouse lead at nine under par.
Lumsden is now in prime position going into the weekend, having just made two bogeys in the opening 36 holes.
“I am really pleased, I played very solidly through the wind and then had a nice little run on the front nine, my back nine. So yeah, it was great.
“The score’s the same, the game was a little different. I didn’t putt super well yesterday and spent a bunch of time on the putting green after the round and just getting help from my coach who picked something up and did some good work and putted much better today, so I was really pleased with that. And then, yeah, still struck it well. It was just much harder in the tougher wind.
“It was much tougher today. I think the conditions were very windy, and then obviously we were kind of a very late tee time, so the greens were a little more chewed up by the end.”
