Food and drink prices, as we know, are always surprisingly cheap for patrons attending The Masters.

However, there’s a new exclusive Augusta National-run hospitality venue opening right across the road from famed Georgia course set to turn that notion of it not being so expensive within the championship grounds right on its Flowering Crab Apple tail.

Are you relaxing in your favourite Masters-viewing chair as it will cost you a cool $17,000 to receive a full Masters week pass to the Map & Flag. There will be no daily passes, and just like the ultra-strict no mobile phone policy across the road, the same rule will be in place within the Map and Flag.

Still, it’s no surprise that the official Masters website says all hospitality units for this year’s Masters are closed.

The Map and Flag facility is laid out over 26,000 square feet.

Sports Business Journal suggests the name Map and Flag comes from the Augusta National logo, which boasts a map of the USA and with the location of Augusta National shown by a golf flag.

The magazine approached the green jackets at Augusta National for comment as to how passes were sold but received no reply.  Though it’s known all Map and Flag passes were sold directly from the club to customers.

More than 80 TVs will be in place to feature Masters tournament coverage while patrons also will have access to an outdoor garden and an all Masters items merchandise shop.

There are three main dining options within Map & Flag as the journal points out.

“The Grille” serves breakfast from 6:30-10am and lunch/dinner from 11:00am until close each day, featuring “an elevated take on classic Tournament fare with masterfully crafted sandwiches.”

“The Carvery” (same hours as “The Grille”) offers Western-style breakfast in the morning and has lunch/dinner offerings that include smoked beef brisket and pork ribs, as well as patrons’ choice of sides.

Finally, “The Marketplace” is open from 6:30am-close each day. It includes coffee, donuts and pastries each morning, and “seasonal fruit, vibrant salads, charcuterie and cheese selections, along with freshly shucked oysters and chilled shrimp cocktail starting at 11 am.”

Map & Flag also has multiple full-service bars throughout.

It was Augusta National Chairman Fred Ridley who at last year’s Masters spoke of a new Masters hospitality facility saying it was created to “meet the evolving expectations of our patrons and guests.”

Of course, it’s not the first time Augusta National has opened an off property dining facility as back in 1993 it officially opened Berkman’s Place, laid out over 90,000 square feet and offering patrons 400 weekly passes at $4,000 each, and no surprise they sold out like hot cakes.

Though we don’t know what will be the Map and Flag time for a last drinks call.
