Conserving nature and protecting the planet will be the message that is at the forefront of proceedings when the 2023 Palheiro Gardens Golf Classic is held in Madeira at the end of next month.

A sold-out international field of more than 100 golfers is set to gather at Palheiro Golf from April 28-29 for the event, which this year will be raising money for the World Cetecean Alliance.

Players from 22 different countries including Canada, America, Switzerland, Brazil, Sweden, South Africa, France, Germany and the UK will team up with local dignitaries and tournament sponsors to fundraise for the international charity, which was set up in 2013 with the aim to protect whales, dolphins and porpoises and their natural habitats through global collaboration.

Taking place at one of Europe’s leading golf resorts for the third year running, the Palheiro Gardens Golf Classic is a two-day tournament that is open to golfers of all levels, with several men’s and women’s categories.

As well as enjoying world-class golf on Palheiro’s acclaimed par-72 championship course – which was designed by Cabell B Robinson and is renowned for its stunning views and challenging layout – participants will have the chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Palheiro Gardens, a lush botanical garden situated next to the course. The garden houses a vast collection of exotic plants and flowers, making it an ideal place for nature lovers as well as the perfect ally to the famous annual ‘Festa da Flor’ Flower Festival which takes place the same weekend.

In addition, golfers will also have the opportunity to enjoy the best delicacies of Madeira’s gastronomy including a pre-tournament sunset party on the panoramic terrace of Palheiro Golf’s clubhouse, with local delicacies prepared by chefs Gonçalo Bota and Teresa Freitas and cocktails provided by Rum Diplomatic to make the evening go with an added swing.

“We are thrilled to host the Palheiro Gardens Golf Classic and welcome golf enthusiasts from around the world,” said Paul Saunders, executive director of Palheiro Golf. “The event promises to be a fantastic experience, combining golf, nature and culinary delights. We look forward to seeing everyone on the course!”

Palheiro Golf is situated within the magnificent Palheiro Nature Estate, which is more than 200 years old, and is one of three outstanding golf venues in the archipelago of Madeira together with Clube de Golf Santo da Serra and Porto Santo Golfe.

Voted as the world’s leading island destination for the last eight years in a row at the World Travel Awards, Madeira – which is located approximately 1,000km from the European mainland and just 500km from the African continent – enjoys an amazingly mild climate with very mild average temperatures and moderate humidity, making it the perfect year-round location for a golf break.

And golfers can enjoy incredible value when they stay in an apartment or villa at Palheiro Village throughout 2023 with a range of five and seven-night golf packages bookable for parties of two to six people. Prices for a five-night break including three rounds of golf at Palheiro Golf or Clube de Golf Santo da Serra start from €460 per person, while a seven-night stay including five green fees is available from €650 per person.
