Ever since Real Club de Campo opened its fairways in 1925, people have been flocking to the sun-drenched Costa del Sol with their clubs in tow, so much so, that the area has been nicknamed Costa del Golf.

These days, golf tourism brings Spain an estimated €11.2 billion per year, according to research by the IE University from Segovia.

With more than 70 courses on the Costa del Sol, it has the highest concentration of courses in Europe. This plethora of facilities means that there are courses for all abilities, catering for beginners to professionals and everyone in between.

There are also a huge range of golf properties in the Costa del Sol, with leading Spanish home builder Taylor Wimpey España among those offering high-quality homes with outstanding access to some of the region’s most popular courses. Properties range from townhouses to light and airy apartments, many with spectacular views over the fairways and out to sea.

The homes at Green Golf are one such example. The south- and southwest-facing homes are flooded with natural light and look out over the course at Estepona Golf, with panoramic views also encompassing the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. The three-bedroom townhouses are split across three floors, with large terraces and a lovely on-site pool and communal gardens. Prices start from €348,000 plus VAT.

For buyers who prefer apartments, Sunny Golf has two-bedroom homes at Estepona Golf available from €245,000 plus VAT. In addition to spectacular views, the private gated community provides communal gardens and pool, surrounded by spectacular scenery.

Despite its reputation as a leading golf destination, the Costa del Sol also has plenty more to offer. The versatile destination is packed with beautiful beaches, bustling cities and shopping hubs, museums, art galleries and other cultural attractions, opportunities for other sports (on both land and water) and some outstanding eateries. It has a great family vibe, with entertainment that can keep family members of all ages happy, as well as the abundant sunshine that gives the area its name.

This versatility is reflected on the property side of things, as well. The apartments at Solemar at Casares Beach, for example, offer the best of both worlds in terms of golf and beach access, being just 0.75 km from the fine sands of Playa Ancha, while the renowned Finca Cortesín golf complex – set to play host to the Solheim Cup later this year – is less than 10 minutes away by car. The Casares, Estepona and La Duquesa golf courses, amongst others, are also within easy reach.

“The Costa del Sol is such a hit with families as it appeals to golfers and non-golfers alike,” says Marc Pritchard of Taylor Wimpey España. “There’s fun to be had both on and off the fairways, with many of the outdoor activities available year-round due to the fabulous weather.”
