As revealed by Irish Golfer Magazine over a fortnight ago, double-winning Masters champion Bubba Watson has joined LIV Golf.

The former world No. 2 player will debut at the LIV Golf Invitational Boston as an off-course captain and will make on-air appearances in live event coverage September 2-4 at The International. Watson, who is currently recovering from injury, will compete when healthy at a date to be determined. His team will be revealed in the lead-up to the next event.

Watson joins a growing list of Masters champions to join LIV with seven of the last 13 Green Jacket winners contracted to the new Tour. Phil Mickelson, Charl Schwartzel, Sergio Garcia, Patrick Reed and Dustin Johnson already within the LIV ranks and reports suggesting Hideki Matsuyama will be the next Augusta winning hero to sign with the breakaway tour.

Watson earned two green jackets (2012, 2014) while rising to the world No. 2 ranking in 2015. The 14-time winner has accumulated 94 top-10 finishes since turning pro, including runner-up at the 2010 PGA Championship. He has represented the U.S. in numerous international team competitions, including four Ryder Cups (2010, 2012, 2014, 2018) and has earned a global following for his historic performances, creative play, and signature left-handed swing. The addition of Watson gives LIV Golf 12 major champions with a combined 23 majors won, including winners of seven of the last 13 Masters.

“Bubba Watson is a tremendous addition to LIV Golf – another major champion joining the growing list of stars on our teams. His game combines the power, innovation, and excitement that the LIV Golf brand represents,” said Greg Norman, LIV Golf CEO and Commissioner. “He’s a risk-taker who has cemented his name among the world’s very best and we’re eager for him to come aboard to bring new energy and audiences to this league.”

The LIV Golf Invitational Series launched June 9 to a worldwide audience showcasing its new, innovative format with 12 teams, 48 players, shotgun starts and no cut. Building on LIV Golf’s successful start and the incredible feedback received from players and fans, it was announced on July 27 that the LIV Golf League will officially launch in 2023 with 12 established team franchises competing in a 14-tournament schedule. The full slate of events will be announced at a later date and is expected to expand LIV Golf’s global footprint across North and Latin Americas, Asia, Australia, the Middle East and Europe.
