‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring… but for the poor panicked soul who left present buying to the very last minute.

Luckily, if you’ve a golfer in your life, time is on your side to source the perfect Christmas gift. Whether it’s to help them rug up through winter, improve their game, or simply to have something to look forward to in the spring, golf is a gift that keeps on giving, and we’ve compiled a list of suggestions to help you do just that.

Pop into the local Pro Shop

If that special someone is a member of a golf club, then they’re like to be friendly with the local professional who’ll know their game well. Winter is a tough time for pros on reduced hours so buying a gift that in turn helps out the club pro is a win-win for all parties. The professional is a mine of information so whether it’s a lesson, a club-fitting, or even a voucher for re-gripping so all 14 clubs in the bag feel like new, there’s plenty to be had in the local shop who’ll be glad of the business over a quiet period for the industry.

Discounts & improvement at the National Academy

When it comes to high-class facilities, the National Golf Academy at Carton House is hard to beat. With indoor and outdoor bays, an array of short-game practice areas, not to mention TrackMan and the knowledge of tremendous pros on site, if improvement is to be had, then the Academy is where you’ll get it, guaranteed. Christmas 2021 Offers include €50 off Albatross Package with code ALBATROSS50. €25 off Trackman Clinic with code TRACKMAN25. More info HERE

Give a Seed. Watch it grow

We’re all about shopping local at IGM Towers and Carlow-based, high-performance golf ball experts SEED offer pills that pack a punch for every budget. Inspired by barefoot bowls, an afternoon phenomenon of an activity in Australia, SD-01 The Jack is the latest ball from Seed sure to help your benefactor hole more putts and improve their game. The company is also offering a really popular Pro Putting Bundle that includes a putting mat, training gates and putting cup for a reduced €89. This is a great gift that could be rolled out at home if time is precious and the weather unruly. Each gate can be used at the various intervals marked on the mat, to create variety and stroke consistency at various lengths. The cup can also be twisted to make the hold smaller to increase difficulty. It allows lots of scope for fun games and competitive learning. Find out all about it HERE

The subscription to our magazine delivered to the door costs €50 anyway so this is a no brainer, even if we do say so ourselves. Click HERE to buy.

Wrap them up for winter

It’s been a relatively mild winter to date but who knows what the new year will bring. Knowing Ireland, it could be time to batten down the hatches but for the die-hard golfers, no weather is too much to brave. Still, you could help them navigate boggy courses and bitter breezes that bit more comfortably with these suggestions, should you wish:

A fully waterproof Gore-Tex wide brim golf hat, complete with storm strap constructed from Gore-Tex material with a mesh lining. Perfect for the worst weather.

The Heatrub Ultimate base layer has been independently tested and proven to be five times warmer than leading competitors. Technologically enhanced fibres inside the garment are activated through movement, gently brushing against the skin to generate heat instantly. Unlike every other baselayer, the Ultimate does not work on the basis of ‘compression for heat’ – so not only does it provide greater warmth for individuals, they also don’t feel restricted by an inability to move and swing freely.

Powered directly by the USB connecter on your electric trolley, the Motocaddy Hot Mitts don’t need to be charged between rounds. They attach straight onto the trolley handle meaning you will keep that essential heat in your fingers to maintain feel for your round.

We hope we’ve helped any anxious search parties out there in time for Christmas. Good luck!
