Before I get accused of being unprofessional, which I most certainly am, it wasn’t meant to be another bring your dad to work day on Monday at the JP McManus Pro-Am. It just so happens that sometimes these things are beyond my control. For the record, I’ll admit that...

Knock’s Katie Poots has been named amongst six players set to represent Great Britain and Ireland against the Continent of Europe in the Junior Vagliano Trophy being played at Hilversumsche in the Netherlands from 8-9 October.

Janet Melville, the 1978 AIG Women’s Open champion, will captain a GB&I team seeking its first victory in the match since it was introduced in 2011.

The six players selected for GB&I are: Grace Crawford, Rosie Bee Kim, Harriet Lockley, Katie Poots, Maggie Whitehead and Ellen Yates.

Melville, who is a member at Royal Birkdale, said, “We have a wonderfully talented group of players who are all delighted to be representing GB&I in what will be an exciting contest against the Continent of Europe in the Netherlands.

“I’m honoured to captain the Great Britain and Ireland team and to lead these young golfers in such a prestigious match which gives them a fantastic opportunity to compete against their peers from the Continent of Europe.”

The team features several golfers enjoying successful seasons including England’s Maggie Whitehead who has recorded five top-ten finishes from six championships this year, including winning the English Girls’ Under 16 Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship.

She is joined by fellow English player Rosie Bee Kim who finished runner-up in the 2021 English Girls’ Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship as well as Scotland’s Grace Crawford who won the 2020 UK Junior Open and the 2021 Stephen Gallacher Foundation Vase.

The GB&I team for the Junior Vagliano Trophy match is:

Grace Crawford (14, West Links Junior, Scotland)

Rosie Bee Kim (14, Buckinghamshire, England)

Harriet Lockley (16, Burnham & Berrow, Wales)

Katie Poots (16, Knock, Ireland)

Maggie Whitehead (15, Close House, England)

Ellen Yates (16, West Hill, England)
