The 2021 Men’s And Women’s Interprovincial Championships get underway on Wednesday with some of the best golfers from around their country representing their provinces at Shannon GC.

Both competitions are played in a round-robin format, with the Men’s matches consisting of four foursomes and seven singles games, with the Women’s matches being played over three foursomes and five singles games.

Munster’s Peter O’Keeffe will be playing in the Interprovincials for the third consecutive decade, after making his debut in the early 2000s. The 2021 AIG Irish Men’s Close champion is looking forward to guiding some of the younger Munster players.

“It’s lovely playing with a team. One thing about Munster teams is that we bond very well. We’ve already had a nice buildup going into this week. It’s all about getting the pairings correct, and having good and open conversations.

“I already know who I’m playing with, and it’ll all be about making them as comfortable as possible. We all know who we are playing with going into the week, so there were no surprises, and we’re all comfortable with the pairings.”

Ulster’s Beth Coulter will be making her debut in the Women’s Interprovincials. It’s the Kirkistown Castle star’s first Interpros appearance since playing for the Girls’ team in Shannon in 2017.

“Having the chance to play in the Interpros for the first time in four years is unbelievable. It’s all about playing against the best amateurs around the country.

“Matchplay is really fun, and is more exciting in a team environment. The balance between foursomes and singles is great too.

“Playing for Ulster is a thrill. It’s always very competitive. Having played so many 36-hole days this year, it might even give me an advantage over some of the player’s I’ll be against.”

The matches begin on Wednesday morning, with the Women’s Interprovincial match between Munster and Connacht getting the Championships underway.
