Michael Hoey is playing life’s long game

On the face of it, Michael Hoey’s decision to swap his yardage book for a rule book and take up a role as a DP World Tour referee might surprise a few people. By his own meticulously high standards, the Northern Irishman even impressed himself at times with his play...

Golf groups can make the most of the fabulous Cascais region in Portugal with full exclusivity of a small boutique hotel, A House in Estoril.

Managed by The Onyria Group, which owns nearby five-star resort Quinta da Marinha, the adults-only 12-room guest house is less than half an hour from Lisbon and is within walking distance to the beach, the Estoril-Cascais promenade, casino and nightlife.

Starting from just €70 per room per night, there is a range of twin, double, superior, deluxe and penthouse rooms available, but golfers will be most attracted to the fact that there are also six fantastic golf courses within easy reach – with exclusive rates at Quinta da Marinha on offer.

Quinta da Marinha sales director, João Pinto Coelho, said: “Private stays away from the hustle and bustle of a busy resort are becoming increasingly popular – with people feeling much safer as they ease their way back into international travel.

“The trend is smaller places with more privacy. A House in Estoril provides this opportunity, as well as the chance for golf groups of more than 12 to have the hotel completely to themselves.

“Groups of golfers tend to base their trip around the location. And with the fantastic golf courses, beaches, restaurants, bars and nightlife in the Cascais region, it really is a destination that has everything!”

The Cascais golf passport offers access to six courses: Belas Clube de Campo, Golf do Estoril, Lisbon Sports Club, Penha Longa, Pestana Beloura and Quinta da Marinha. Packages with four nights and three rounds start from €280, and there are also five nights with four rounds or seven nights with five round options.

But there is much more to the enticing region than just the exceptional golf with wine-tasting, historical landmarks, outstanding beaches and the breathtaking natural beauty of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park to explore – and a stay at A House in Estoril allows guests to create their own bespoke adventure.
