Royal Dublin's Kennedy leads qualifying at The South

Royal Dublin’s Max Kennedy is the leading qualifier at the 2021 South of Ireland Amateur Open.

A second round of 67, that included a double bogey on the 10th, saw him finish level on -11 with First Round leader Thomas O’Connor (Athlone GC). Kennedy’s round, which also included seven birdies, was enough to beat O’Connor’s round of 70 to leading qualifier honours.

Galgorm Castle’s Joshua Hill was leading qualifier at last week’s North of Ireland Amateur Open in Royal Portrush, and he finished the second round in a tie for third place on -9 with Portumna’s Sam Murphy.

Three players recorded rounds of 66 on a scorching day in Clare, including Nenagh’s David Reddan Jr, who moved over 60 places up the leaderboard, and into the Matchplay section. The top-64 qualify for the Matchplay, with two rounds of matches taking place on Friday. Only 16 players will remain after Friday’s matches.
