Gardner one shot clear at Connacht Senior Open

Clandeboye’s Rebekah Gardner will take a one-shot lead into the final round of the Connacht Women’s Senior Open, at Athlone GC.

Rounds of 75 and 79, left Gardner a stroke clear of Elm Park’s Emma Fleming, after testing second round conditions.

Gardner impressed throughout the day, and sat a shot behind First Round leader Sinead Benedetti. The Roscommon golfer will start Friday’s final round in a tie for fourth place, eight shots behind the 16-year-old.

In the Connacht Junior Open, Achill’s Karen Lyons takes a one-shot lead into the final round, atop a packed leaderboard.

Local golfer Cathryn Mannion leads the pack of chasers, alongside Portumna’s Bernie Kilmartin and Tullamore’s Sinead Ni Cheilleachair.
