The ever-popular Newry, Mourne and Down Junior Golf Summer Trophy returns to Irish fairways for an eagerly anticipated third time as some of the game’s future stars descend on three exciting venues from July 21-23.
Once again open to all boys and girls under the age of 18, players will test their skills at Kilkeel GC on Wednesday, July 21 before tackling Warrenpoint GC on Thursday July 22. Then all roads will lead to the Grand Final set for Royal County Down (Annesley Links) on Friday, July 23.
The innovative competition represents a great opportunity for young prospects to cut their teeth on some spectacular layouts, sure to fast-track their development and whet an appetite for a future in our great game.
As well as a professionally run tournament affording fledgling players the opportunity to experience the world of golf, there will be prize categories on offer to suit all ages and playing abilities ensuring a fair challenge and lots of fun for those taking part.
In an added bonus for families encouraged to come along, those not taking part in the competition itself and without an official handicap are encouraged to showcase their skills in a flag competition that will complement an exciting and sure to be enjoyable, few days of golf.
And if all that wasn’t enough, each player will avail of a welcome pack and be treated like the pros on the first-tee with name announcements for all those taking their chance at this July’s Newry, Mourne and Down Junior Golf Summer Trophy.
The initiative was first introduced in 2018 by Newry, Mourne & Down District Council in conjunction with the Golfing Union of Ireland (Ulster Branch), the Irish Ladies Golfing Union Ltd. (Northern District), Warrenpoint, Kilkeel and Royal County Down Golf Clubs. This will be the first year the newly formed Golf Ireland is involved in the event.
Entry to the competition is £25 (€28).
