Lurgan’s Annabel Wilson is headed to the NCAA Championships after helping the Bruins to the NCAA Louisville Regional title on Wednesday.

The Northern Irish sophomore signed off with a five-over 77 for a share of 57th at 11-over in a round that included one birdie, three bogeys and a triple. Fellow sophomore Emma Spitz was the star of the show this week for UCLA, claiming the individual medallist honours as the Bruins finished in a tie for second (+11, 875), shooting a 1-over 289 on Wednesday at the University of Louisville Golf Club. UCLA will be one of six teams from the Louisville Regional advancing to Scottsdale, Ariz. and Grayhawk Golf Club (May 21-26).

Spitz followed up her 5-under 67 on Tuesday with a 4-under 68 on Wednesday to finish at 8-under 208, winning by five strokes. After a bogey and seven pars on her first eight holes, Spitz jump-started her round with an eagle on the par-5 ninth. She added birdies on the par-4 10th and par-3 12th and 16th holes, with no additional bogeys to win by a handful.

The victory for Spitz marked the third year in a row a Bruin has been the medallist at Regionals. Patty Tavatanakit won in 2018 and 2019, with her and Spitz finishing at 8-under 208 in each of those three seasons. UCLA has had nine winners of an NCAA Regional.
