The R&A has opened entries for golfers aiming to play in its amateur championships being held in the UK this summer. The Women’s Amateur Championship at Kilmarnock (Barassie) is the first scheduled event of the season and will take place at the South Ayrshire links from 7-12 June.

Due to the continuing Covid-19 pandemic, and the likelihood of international travel measures remaining in place, The Amateur Championship will now be played solely at Nairn with a reduced field competing over the renowned links from 14-19 June.

Phil Anderton, Chief Development Officer at The R&A, said, “We have been working hard to ensure that we can safely run our series of amateur championships and international matches this summer and are pleased to open entries for golfers aiming to compete in these great championships.

“It is likely that international travel measures will remain in place for some time and so given that it may not be possible for amateur golfers in a number of countries to come to the UK we have decided to play The Amateur Championship over one venue with a reduced field size as we did last year. We would like to thank Nairn Dunbar for its support and understanding in making this change.”

In addition to earning exemptions into The Open, the US Open and by tradition, an invite to the Masters Tournament, this year’s Amateur Champion will be also given the opportunity to tee it up in an event on the European Tour. Those golfers reaching the semi-finals of the championship will be invited to play in a Challenge Tour event.

The winner of the Women’s Amateur Championship gains entry into to the AIG Women’s Open, US Women’s Open, The Amundi Evian Championship and Augusta National Women’s Amateur Championship.

Entries for The Women’s Amateur Championship are required to be submitted to The R&A by Tuesday 18 May and for The Amateur Championship by Thursday 20 May. Please visit RandA.org for more information.

Entries for the R&A Women’s Senior Amateur Championship, the R&A Senior Amateur Championship, the R&A Girls’ Amateur Championship, the R&A Boys’ Amateur Championship and the R&A Girls’ Under 16 Amateur Championship will open in due course.
