Murphy bags another top-10 at Mobile Bay Intercollegiate

Kinsale’s John Murphy carded a one-under par round of 71 to grab another top-10 finish, this time at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate in Mobile, Alabama.

Senior Murphy tied for seventh after he returned rounds of 70-69-71 for a 210 three round total of six-under par, his best finish of the spring so far. The fifth-year player recorded four birdies for his round, including consecutive birdies on No. 2 and No. 3 with his result adding to his other top-10 this month at the Jones Cup Invitational at Sea Island.

Murphy’s teammate Matthias Schmid carded a 7-under-par effort to lead the University of Louisville men’s golf team to a fourth finish place overall. As a team, the Cardinals shot 280-285-285=850 to finish at 14-under-par for the three-day event, finishing two shots behind third place Kent State. Illinois ran away with the tournament by shooting a 37-under-par tally.

Royal Dublin’s Max Kennedy finished in a tie for 39th in his first collegiate event after shooting a 3-over-par 72-75-72 for a 219 54-hole total while at the same tournament, Connemara’s Kansas State convert, Luke O’Neill finished two shots back of Kennedy after rounds of 73, 74 and 74 saw him share 47th spot at five-over par.

The Cardinals return to the course on March 7-9 at the Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas, Texas.
