The Cardinals carded a 3-under-par 285 to slip into a tie for fourth place with Indiana. Illinois continues to pace the field after shooting a 12-under-par to own an 11-shot lead over Kent State and a 14-shot advantage over UAB. In his pursuit of the individual title, Murphy carded a 69 to pair with his first round of 70 to move into a fifth-place tie with teammate Matthias Schmid, who shot a 2-under-par 70. It means the Cork man sits five shots off Michael Feagles’ 36-hole lead at 10-under but just two shots off second place as Murphy looks to go a few places better than the tied sixth finish he enjoyed already this month at the Jones Cup Invitational at Sea Island.

Murphy’s Cardinals’ teammate, Max Kennedy meanwhile carded a birdie and four bogeys in a three-over second round 75 to add to his even par start. The Royal Dubliner teenager is in a share of 41st alongside Connemara’s Kansas State convert, Luke O’Neill who added a 74 to his opening 73 to sit at three-over par.
