Massereene’s Michael Wilson fired an excellent one-over par round of 72 to capture the Leinster U14 Boys Open Championship on Monday.

The youngster’s superb showing pipped Douglas’ Jack Murphy on countback to take top honours at Ashbourne golf club.

Munster man Murphy continued his recent good form after winning the Ulster U14 Boys Open earlier this month in Donaghadee GC with a runner-up finish but the day belonged to Wilson who held his nerve to claim a super win.

Last year’s U13 Category Winner Harry McArdle (Warrenpoint) came in third place with a score of 73.

The Under 13 category prize went to Adam Fahey (Seapoint) with a brilliant score of 74.
