Keane & O’Gorman keep pace at Intervarsity Championships

Jonathan Keane fired a second successive 71 to maintain his two stroke lead atop the board heading into the final round of the Irish Intervarsity Championship at St. Anne’s.

In tricky conditions, the University of Limerick golfer, who plays out of Lahinch fired four birdies, including two in his last three holes with all four cancelled out by a triple bogey 7 at the seventh and another bogey at the penultimate obstacle.

All told, at level par though 36, Keane takes a slender two-shot advantage into the final day with Maynooth’s Allan Hill in close attendance in second spot at plus-two and Ulster’s Jack Shellard back in third a shot further adrift.

In the women’s competition, UCD’s Ellen O’Gorman took control after signing for a five-over par round of 77.

O’Gorman managed one birdie on the round and her 13-over par 36-hole tally heads co-first round leader, UCC’s Rachel Thompson by three shots back in second.
