Doran delights in comeback victory at Irish Seniors in Carlow

Donabate’s Pat Doran fired an even par round of 75 that proved enough to capture the Irish Senior Women’s Open Stroke Play at Carlow.

With The Island’s Gertie McMullen three clear out in front starting the final round, a special effort was needed from someone in the chasing pack to catch the leader.

And it was Doran who provided that effort; her even par charge on Friday outscoring the overnight leader by five as she burst through the finish line at six-over par for a two-stroke win.

McMullen had to settle for second spot after her final round of 80, sharing the runner-up position alongside Canada’s Judith Kyrinis at plus-8.
