Carton House’s Darragh Flynn showed the field a clean pair of heels at Murvagh to win the Irish Students Open Championship in Donegal.
The Maynooth University student held his nerve in breezing conditions to claim a two shot win over day one leader, Woodbrook’s Tom Dowdall.
Flynn’s commanding lead allowed him to double-bogey the last in a rewarding performance for the Kildare man who’s been enjoying one of his most consistent campaigns this term. Rounds of 74, 71 and 75 for a plus-one tournament total =were enough to get the job done for Darragh.
Dowdall had to settle for second after struggling to a final round 79 while Mullingar’s Adam Smith took the final podium spot on four-over par.
Flynn’s performance out in front also edged his Maynooth (b) side to the team title alongside David Brady and Paul Conroy. Maynooth (a) fell one shot shy of their college mates.
