Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy have put themselves in prime stalking position at the halfway point of the FedEx St. Jude Championship where Lucas Glover has maintained his recent form to take the lead.

McIlroy shot a four-under-par 66, mixing five birdies with just a solitary bogey to sit seven-under par and three back of leader Lucas Glover

Once again, the putter stopped it from being an even better round as McIlroy missed three putts inside 10 feet and another three from 10-15-feet on Friday as his approach game leveled up.

The three-time FedExCup champion gained 3.258 shots in Strokes Gained: Approach in Friday’s second round. He sits fourth in SG: Tee to Green on the week and fourth in SG: Approach but ranks 41st in SG: Putting.

Still, McIlroy is in a six-way tie for eighth on a packed leaderboard heading into the weekend

Glover, who’s found his grove on the greens since switching to the broom-handled putter, continued his winning form from last week shooting a bogey free 64, which included four birdies and an eagle.

The 2009 US open champion holed over 100 feet of putts and he told the media that he’s finally adjusted to the slower greens.

“I’m hitting good putts. I read the greens better today, just had trouble getting to the hole. They were just a little slower than the practice green, and it took me a little while to get adjusted”, Glover said.

“I started it on line a lot and made all my short ones and had a couple opportunities late that I didn’t capitalize on, but there’s time”.

Glover is one clear of Jordan Spieth and two clear of four players on eight under.

Seamus power had a disappointing day shooting a three-over 73 to sit +4 and out of contention, and projected to fall to 38th in the FedExCup rankings which would leave the Waterford man on the outside looking in for the Tour Championship unless he can find a spark on the final two rounds here in Memphis or in next week’s BMW Championship.
