Two of Ireland’s brightest young stars collected silverware again this week as Emma Fleming and Jack Murphy reigned supreme at the Connacht Girls and Munster Boys Amateur Open Championships.

Elm Park’s Fleming carded rounds of 70, 79 and 72 at Castle Dargan Golf Club for a one-under total and a three shot win.

Fleming was the only girl to break par as she finished in red figures ahead of Co. Louth Golf Club’s Ellen O’Shaughnessy who was two-over after a closing 72 while Ballykisteen’s Caitlin Shippam took bronze on four-over-par.

Fleming had already extended her lead in the Bridgestone race following her quarter-final finish at the AIG Irish Women’s Close in Connemara last weekend and her latest win will strengthen her hold on top spot.

Meanwhile Douglas teenager Murphy defended his Muster Championship in Tipperary Golf Club.

Having opened his week with a level-par 72 he stormed into the lead with a blistering five-under 67 on day two.

Murphy braved the heavy rain in the final round to card a one-under 71.

The Irish underage international was two-over through four holes of his final round but bounced back with birdies on the sixth, ninth, thirteenth and fifteenth to win by the minimum on six-under as he claimed his second Boys Championship of the season having won the Connacht Boys Championship.

Home favourite Donnacha Cleary (Tipperary) finished a shot back on -5 after rounds of 70, 71 and 70 while Darcy Hogg of Belvoir Park was third on two-under.
