Jordan Spieth feels his game is trending in the right direction heading into 2027 despite missing out on a place in the BMW Championship by a shot on Sunday.
Spieth’s failure to break in to the top-50 in the FedEx Cup playoffs brings his season to an end and leaves him not guaranteed of starts in all $20m Signature Events next season.
Spieth finished in a share of 19th place at the FedEx St Jude Championship as he closed with a level-par 70. And although his season ends without a top-10 and without a victory since 2022, the world number 55 is confident that he is close to producing the golf of his major championship vintage of 2015 to 2017.
“I just feel like I’m kind of getting back to playing really good golf, like it’s close to kicking off, and I’m not going to play a tournament for a long time. In some ways I feel like I’m leaving some out there, and in some ways it’s a good thing because like I mentioned after the first round, this will be the last time I finish like this for a while.
“I’m very, very confident in what’s coming. I just ran out of steam and maybe made a couple bad decisions over about a six-week stretch on what I was working on, and I just didn’t quite have enough time to make up for it.”
Spieth, 52nd in the rankings, was one of a host of big names who were eliminated from the FedEx Cup including Shane Lowry, Brian Harman and Max Homa while Keith Mitchell was 51st in the rankings.
