Hulencourt Golf Club shown it’s teeth in Saturday’s round three as only 10 players managed to post under-par rounds and unfortunately for Anna Foster, she wasn’t one of them.
Foster posted a two-over-par third round in the windy conditions but thanks to the difficulties everyone else was having, Foster remains in a strong position for a top-10 finish on Sunday as she holds T6, eight strokes back from the lead.
It wasn’t an ideal start for the Elm Park golfer as she made a double bogey at the first but bounced back well with a birdie at the par-5 third. The 24-year-old would squeeze another birdie at the next par-5, the ninth, to get back to even-par before taking on the back nine.
The course began to fight back throughout the final nine holes for the Dubliner as she made bogey at the 11th but counterpunched with a birdie at the 12th.
Two more bogeys came at the 14th and 17th as Foster posted a 74 to take her tally to two-under after 54-holes. Foster sits 60th in the Order of Merit standings and a strong Sunday showing will earn her a third LET top-10 finish and really elevate her bid to get comfortable inside the top 64 for full exemption next season.
Australia’s Kelsey Bennett continued her under-par streak as the 26-year-old carded a three-under-par 69 to hold a two stroke lead into Sunday’s final round in Belgium.
Bennett’s only setback came at the par-3 11th where she made bogey but the Aussie is confident in securing her second win on the Ladies European Tour after claiming the Australian Women’s Classic back in March. She is currently third on the LET Order of Merit – the highest position of anyone in the field.
“Yeah it was a pretty solid day,” said Bennett. “I actually didn’t really know what the scoreboard was doing to it’s good to know I’m now two shots clear. I was plotting my way around and this course sets up well for my game. I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing tomorrow,” she added.
Carolina Chacarra, who posted a course record breaking 65 on Friday, struggled on Saturday as she posted a one-over-par 73 to see her drop to second place at eight-under. Chacarra had a somewhat uneventful day but her only mistake was a big one – making a double bogey at the ninth.
Indian duo Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar share T3 at five-under, followed by Thailand’s Trichat Cheenglab who holds solo fifth at three-under.
Ashok, a five time LET winner, made three birdies in her final four holes to soar up the leaderboard and into contention.
