In a weather delayed opening round at the US Open it was China’s Shanshen Feng who made the headlines with a blistering first round 66 to lie one shot clear of Any Yang. Lydia Ko is lurking only one shot further back alongside Carlotta Ciganda, who has to return this morning to complete the 18th.

The early players were quite lucky with the conditions but with a 2 hour storm delay from 4:30pm and players returning to a very soggy course, play was eventually called for the day at 8:30pm with the final group still six holes from home.

Ireland’s World #1 lady amateur, Leona Maguire, had 5 bogeys and 2 birdies in her round of 75 to leave her on +3 while Stephanie Meadow unfortunately didn’t register any birdies in her opening round of 77 and both players have some ground to make up today to make the halfway cut.

Both players have late tee times today with Maguire off at 1:29pm local time alongside So Yeon Ryu and Ariya Jutanugarn and Meadow off at 2:35pm with Ally McDonald and amateur Marial Galdiano.

We wish them both the best of luck.
