Colm Moriarty made it a hat trick of wins on the Irish PGA Region in sumptuous style as he roared to a course record 62 at Elm Park on Tuesday.

The Glasson Lakehouse professional topped the leaderboard on seven-under on a day of low scoring, two shots ahead of Carne Pro-Am winner Liam Power (Rathfarnham) while Order of Merit winner Richard Kilpatrick (Banbridge) was four-under in third.

It was a shotgun start in Elm Park with Moriarty getting underway from the sixth tee before two up and downs on the par fives seven and nine saw him quickly move to two-under-par.

The 44-year-old made it back-to-back birdies with an eight-footer on the par-4 10th beer he held a 25-footer for a fourth birdie of the day on 15.

Moriarty launched a bullet six iron to six feet on the par-3 17th for a fifth birdie before an eight foot birdie on the first put him within touching distance of the course record at -6.

A birdie putt from 12-feet on the third hole (his 16th) put him in unchartered territory and he held out as the rain fell with two closing pars.

“I’m delighted to do it, it was one of those days where I built a good score and we all know those types of days don’t come along too often unfortunately but when they do you have to take advantage of it so it’s very pleasing,” said Moriarty who is in hot form heading to the two-day PGA Pro-Am in Donegal Murvagh this Friday.

“I wasn’t aware of the actual course record no, I was playing with a couple of members and as soon as I finished my last hole they were quick to let me know but I didn’t know about the record heading into the round.

“I’ve been playing well the last while, played well in the Club Pros, played decent in Newlands and it all came together in Elm Park so I am looking forward to the big event in Donegal over the weekend it should be a really good tournament.

“The greens were fantastic, in immaculate condition, they were literally perfect and so quick. We were fortunate with the forecast but luckily the rain held off until the last few holes. It’s a great golf course to play golf.”
