Anna Foster’s six-under 66 was the low round of the day from an Irish perspective until Leona Maguire came in with a 63 shortly afterwards, but the Elm Park woman felt that there was definitely a good score to be had on The K Club’s Palmer South Course on Saturday.
“Yeah, I think, the scores are out there and you can see that today with a lot of girls like taking advantage,” she said.
“So yeah, I just felt like I was trying to just give myself loads of chances and just do what I have been doing.
“Just made a few more [putts] today than in the last two days.”
With steady rain overnight and throughout the morning, players were allowed preferred lies in the fairway and that, combined with better knowledge of the course, a couple of shortened par-5s and favourable pins allowed for the low-scoring in Foster’s estimation.
“I think just like a few par-5s were easier maybe, but, some of the pins are a little bit more gettable too,” she explained. “But I think each day you play the course, you learn a lot about it and feel like you have a better idea of how far the ball is going, how it’s going to react out of the rough and just things like that.
“So, I was just gaining more insight from the last two days and trying to use that in different situations today.”
With the final 30 players or so still on course, the 66 lifted Foster to seven-under and inside the top 15, which, coming a fortnight after a runner-up finish at the SwissBank Ladies Open, is further evidence that she’s in good form.
“I think it was a great momentum-builder for me,” she said of posting her best LET finish to date. “And just even like the self confidence because coming into this week, there’s a lot of distractions and stuff this week.
“So just, to be at least thinking my golf is in a good place, that definitely just settled me a bit before we started.”
