Enniscorthy star Paul Conroy picked up the Southern Conference Golfer of the Week award following his second collegiate victory at the Furman Intercollegiate.

Conroy who plays for Chattanooga carded rounds of 70, 64 and 71, holing a 30-footer on the 18th to win by a single stroke.

Conroy also led the field in par-4 scoring that week on four-under and having been in blistering form all year, qualifying for the NCAA Championships last term, he has carried on that form throughout the summer and into the fall season with results of T3 and 1st in his two starts this semester.

“Since coming from home last August I started playing well again. Mullingar Scratch Cup last year was when I felt like I was playing solid again and then I kept it going for the most part, had some bad events as well. But since last summer I have to say I have been fairly solid.

“Recently I have a lot of confidence and my short game and putting has improved a lot in the last year. I have worked very hard on my short game compared to before and I have seen the results, shaving scores off my average which is down to short game.

“Our head coach and assistant coach have been very good in getting my short gamer to a different level and checking up on everything and making sure my swing is in the right place and I’m ready to go on tournament weeks.”
