Caolan Rafferty shot a brilliant round of 66 to move Ireland up to 4th position and into Flight A of the European Amateur Team Championship.
The Flight A matchplay will commence in the morning with Ireland sending out 2 foursomes matches followed by 5 singles matches in the evening. The Flight B match play will be played over one round with one foursomes match followed by 4 singles.
After Day 2 at the European Team Championships, the Men are 4th, The Women are 5th, the Girls are 8th, and the Boys are 9th. It was the Men’s team who made the biggest move on day 2 as they fired an incredible second round total of -15 to finish on –23 total. Rafferty and Max Kennedy finished on -7 total, 4 shots behind individual leader Jose Luis Ballester (Spain). Liam Nolan is one shot further back on –6, while Mark Power added a second round of –1 to get to –2 total. Matthew McClean and Alex Maguire both posted a second round of 71. The men will face France in the first round of matches.
The Women’s team of Jessica Ross (68), Sara Byrne (68), Beth Coulter (71), Kate Lanigan (73), Mairead Martin (74) and Anna Foster (76) had a -6 second round total to get to 13 under par total. They have qualified as the 5th seed for the Flight A match play. The Women’s team will face England in the first round of match play.
Anna Abom (72), Katie Poots (72), Olivia Costello (73), Marina Joyce Moreno (75), Emma Fleming (76), and Kate Dillon (77) gave Ireland a +13 second round total to sit in 8th position on +28 total in Hossegor Golf Club, France. They will play in tomorrow’s Flight A match play. The Irish girls will face Spain in their first round of match play.
The Irish Boys’ team narrowly missed out on Flight A as they sit in 9th position after posting a combined second round of –1. Jack Murphy (70), Sean Keeling (70), Fionn Dobbin (72), Mark Gazi (72), Aodhagon Brady (75) and Gavin Tiernan (76) finish the Strokeplay qualifying on +11 total at Golf Club of Geneva, Switzerland. The Boys will face Slovakia in tomorrow’s first round of the Flight B matches.
