Guatemala star claims Irish Senior Women’s Open

Guatemala’s Beatriz Arenas has had a busy few weeks in Ireland, not only did she proudly represent her country at the World Amateur Team Championships in Carton House, but has now claimed the title of Irish Senior Women’s Open Champion.

Arenas saw off the strong local challenges of Sheena McElroy (Grange) and Gertie McMullen (The Island) and carded her third straight round of 82 to claim the top spot by 2 shots from McElroy and McMullen who tied second on a 248 stroke total, alongside American Gigi Higgins.

Ireland claimed the top spot in the Nations Cup finishing with a total of 491. The team consisted of Sheena McElroy, Carol Wickham and Gertie McMullen and were a full 12 shots clear of the chasing pack.
