Ireland’s Olivia Mehaffey looked every bit the leading amateur that she’s become after qualifying for the Matchplay rounds of the US Women’s Amateur golf tournament in third spot at Kingston Springs.
The World Amateur Number 21 and Arizona State star added a three-under 68 to her four-under 67 on day one to post a seven-under-par total, just two shots behind leading qualifiers, America’s Lucy Li and Hyun Selin from South Korea.
The Banbridge native fired five birdies as part of her impressive playing to cruise through to the business end of proceedings at the Golf Club of Tennessee.
The field has now been cut to 64 and the knockout rounds commence this evening with Mehaffey one of the leading contenders for the famous title.
