Lurgan’s Anabel Wilson heads the Irish challenge after day one of the 115th Ladies British Open Amateur Championship at Hillside.

The teenager carded a plus two round of 74 to sit six shots behind France’s Elodie Chapelet at the top of the leaderboard.

Unfortunately it was a disappointing opening for Ireland’s other five raiders as Olivia Mehaffey (RCDL), Mairead Martin (Kanturk), Jessica Ross (Clandeboye) and Sinead Sexton (Lahinch) all shot six-over 78s while Lisburn’s Paula Grant was one shot worse off after a 79 to start.
