Lauren Walsh, Áine Donegan and Sara Byrne will all see final-round action after the LET’s La Sella Open’s second round was completed on Saturday and the tournament reduced to 54 holes.
Thunder, lightning and heavy rain wreaked havoc over the opening two rounds, and when play resumed for the second round on Saturday morning, the action was short lived before the players were forced back to the clubhouse again.
The officials then made the decision to reduce the event to 54 holes, and unfortunately for Lauren Walsh who began round two inside the top five at -3 but covered her first 16 holes of round two in two-over before returning to play the remaining two in one-under, she’s now fallen nine shots behind the leader at -2 overall.
Donegan managed to card a three-under 69 to climb to level-par and into a share of 25th, while Sara Byrne shot a level-par 72 to end the day on one-over and tied 35th.
Olivia Mehaffey missed the cut after a disappointing 76 that left her the wrong side of the mark by the minimum, while Anna Foster and Annabel Wilson also missed out.
At the top of the leaderboard, England’s Charlotte Heath will take a commanding four-shot advantage into the final round despite not hitting a single shot on Saturday.
Heath produced a superb seven-under-par 65 on Friday to move to 11-under-par, four strokes clear of Australia’s Maddison Hinson-Tolchard and Poland’s Dorota Zalewska, who share second place at seven-under.
