Only two of Ireland’s elite made it past the first round  of match play with only one progressing to the quarter finals in the Spanish Amateur.

At the start of the day Annabel Wilson (Lurgan) was the sole survivor on the ladies side but she was beaten 2&1 by Spain’s Teresa Diaz Moliner.

On the men’s side of the draw there were four at the start of the day but only Stuart Grehan (Tullamore) and Kevin Le Blanc (The Island) made it through round one with Le Blanc the sole survivor at the quarter final stages.

Grehan beat Maynooth teammate Ronan Mullarney (Galway) 6&4 in the morning but was undone 7&6 in the afternoon by Spain’s Eduard Rousaud, while in the morning Le Blanc beat France’s Arthur Ameil-Planchin before claiming a 6&5 win over England’s Alfie Plant.

Le Blanc meets Angel Hidalgo in the quarter finals this morning.  Best of luck Kevin.
