Maynooth’s Robin Dawson struck an opening round of six under at Kingswood Golf Estate

Following on from his fine form at the South African Amateur Open Strokeplay, Robin Dawson (Maynooth) started the Cape Province Open as part of an eight-man Irish squad with an opening six under for a share of second place.

The Irish squad which also includes Colm Campbell (Warrenpoint), Colin Fairweather (Knock),  John Ross Galbraith (Whitehead), Alex Gleeson (Castle), Stuart Grehan (Tullamore/MU), Kevin Le Blanc (The Island/MU) and Conor O’Rourke (Naas) have three players in the Top 20 with Alex Gleeson T8 and Kevin Le Blanc T14.

The squad are accompanied by Captain Tony Goode and coach Neil Manchip.
