Dylan Keating was left to rue a tough start to his back nine in the final round as he missed out on progression through the First Stage of DP World Tour Q-School at Golfclub Schloss Ebreichsdorf in Austria.
Keating was forced to settle for a two-over 74 which dropped him to a share of 36th place on five-under-par which was four shots outside the all important top-19 and ties which advanced to next month’s Second Stage in Spain.
The Seapoint amateur began the day inside the qualifying spots and his hopes of progressing were still alive after a front nine of 36 that included a birdie on the 4th and a bogey on the 5th. But his chances were blown when he double bogeyed the par-5 11th and followed up with a bogey on the 12th.
He did finish well with a late birdie on the par-3 16th but the 24-year-old’s DP World Tour dream is over for now.
Ireland will have plenty of home hopefuls next month with Thomas Higgins, Niall Kearney, John Ross Galbraith, Ronan Mullarney and Dermot McElroy who already punched their tickets to Second Stage via successful First Stage outings.
