The DP World Tour is set to restore two historic national championships to its schedule in 2027 following its landmark partnership with the Asian Tour.
As part of the deal struck earlier this summer, the Asian Tour joined the Strategic Alliance involving the DP World Tour and PGA Tour after severing its links with LIV Golf. The tours plan to align their schedules more closely from 2027, paving the way for the return of long-standing events.
The Singapore Open is expected to make its long-awaited comeback. It last appeared on the DP World Tour calendar in 2012, when Matteo Manassero defeated Louis Oosthuizen in a playoff. The Hong Kong Open, which Tom McKibbin won in 2025 as part of the Asian Tour’s International Series, is also due to return, having last featured as a DP World Tour event in 2018 when Aaron Rai edged out Matt Fitzpatrick.
Rory McIlroy confirmed the developments while speaking at the BMW PGA Championship. “I think it’s great with this partnership with the Asian Tour again, we have the Hong Kong Open back and the Singapore Open back,” he said.
“I think they’re tournaments that obviously are in a different part of the world, but they have quite a big expat community, and you can get quite a lot of people to those events that know golf and have been around golf. So, I think it’s good to have those two events back.”
Official confirmation from the DP World Tour, along with its full 2027 schedule, is expected later this week.
